Between 1950 and 1954, the Carrera Panamericana — a border-to-border sports car racing event – dominated the racing scene. Ferrari took home victories in the 1951 and 1954 running and Mercedes chalked up a victory in 1952. Now that 58 years have passed since the final official running – a historical race has been run since 1988 – Gullwing America (GWA) has decided to piece together a pair of tribute cars for Ferrari and Mercedes.
The dedicatory Ferrari is dubbed the Ferrari 340M/C. The 340M/C will feature the F116C-V12, 5.5-liter V-12 engine that Ferrari, with a different fuel-injection system – likely to allow it to run on today’s fuel. Gullwing America strapped a set of headers and racing mufflers to the engine to help free up as many ponies as possible. Mating this classic V-12 to its transmission is an upgraded clutch.
Unfortunately, GWA has not privileged us with the engine’s total output, so we’ll just have to wait for that.
This Ferrari will be carried by a branded Mercedes Benz transporter in a tour around the world. It will make various F1 stops and also be seen at Goodwood and Nürburgring. Stay tuned for more details, if GWA releases any more.

It’s been 60 years since the Mercedes 300SL dominated the 3rd Carrera Panamericana, finishing in first and second place. For the first two years, the race had been led by American car makers and Ferraris. To commemorate this great moment in Mercedes racing history, GWA is ready to suit up two of their models in racing attire.
The GWA commemorative cars would get more than just a fancy new paint job. They will be fitted with extra features. The 300SL/R will run with the new M-156 V8 (6.3L) engine matted with the new transmission. It will also feature a modified brake system, which includes bigger calipers. Completing the racing look are special, retro-inspired 19 inch Monoblock wheels, racing seats, a roll bar and all the safety features required to make the car race ready.

The 340M/C will feature the same F116C-V12 (5.5L) engine, but with a different injection system and special clutch. It will also have new headers and racing mufflers. This model’s racing look will include deep concave staggered mesh type wheels, racing seats and all the necessary safety equipment.
These GWA Commemorative Cars would be unveiled in the show category at the Carrera Panamericana and then tour the world. A branded Mercedes Benz transporter will make stops at F1 races and car shows around the globe, from Goodwood to Nürburgring to Pebble Beach. The cars will get the spotligh as part of a show.
Not only will they pay homage to an important moment in Mercedes history, these special edition models will also serve as the perfect advertising tool for brands targeting exotic car fans.
Sponsors would have the opportunity to have their logo featured on the transporter and the vehicles themselves. GWA’s Carrera Panamericana Commemorative Car Tour will offer a truly unique way for brands to connect with car lovers all over the world.
