Bajaj is all set to re-write the rules of the Indian performance motorcycle segment with the 2012 Pulsar 200NS that is scheduled to go on sale in April 2012 at around the Rs 75,000 mark. The 200cc liquid-cooled engine develops 23.5PS of power, enough to lend the bike sizzling performance that will complement the sporty, modern and racy design language. The Pulsar 200NS will also pave the way for future Pulsar models that will be sold in various engine configurations.

Design

Bajaj Pulsar 200NS
First look at the Pulsar 200NS and you are bound to get bikes like the Yamaha FZ-16 and the Honda CBR1000R into the picture. Clearly, the designers have picked up cues from these bikes and fused their best design elements into one and the end product does look awfully sporty, modern and very racy! It should be noted that ex-BMW design head Edgar Heinrich was part of the team that designed this machine. The Pulsar 200NS carries on the naked sports legacy that the brand started a decade back and how! The original tank is now sharper and runs down to the radiator shroud. There is no sticker work, but pure creases and prominent design lines which adds to aggression to the whole visual appeal.

The Darth Vader headlamp gets your attention up front along with the wide 100mm front tyre and sharply cut front mud-guard. See the Pulsar 200NS from the rear three quarter and you are bound to be impressed even more. Bajaj has left no stones un-turned as far as design goes and the clutter less and raised rear part simply adds to the oomph factor. The 130mm wide tyre and the under-belly exhaust along with the petal discs complete the package here.

Engine

Complementing the sporty design of the Pulsar 200NS is the 199.5cc four-stroke engine that has clearly been designed and tuned for performance. The bottom end of this engine and parts like crankshaft, connecting rod and piston etc are shared with the Duke 200 but the rest of the unit is different. The Pulsar 200NS also makes use of a (surprisingly) carburettor and technology flows in in the form of three spark plugs (up from two on the earlier models), four valves and liquid cooling. The engine, producing a very impressing 23.5PS of power at 9500rpm, is mated to a 6-speed transmission. Maximum torque stands at 18.3Nm at 8000rpm.
Bajaj claims that per the IDC norms, the Pulsar 200NS fuel economy stands at 54kmpl. Expect a top speed of around 130-135km/h along with a sub 9 second timing for the 0-100km/h sprint.

Price

The official launch of the 2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200NS is slated in the first week of April, ie, in the next financial year. While Bajaj hasn’t disclosed by price band in which the 200NS will be pitted, we assume this all-new and sportiest bike from the manufacturer ever will carry a price tag in the range of Rs 75,000 to Rs 80,000 making it shattering value for money, a trait that Bajaj has always been known for!
This kind of money gets you a technology superior Indian performance bike that looks hot as hell!

Competition

Bajaj Pulsar 200NS
The 2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200NS will face competition from half a dozen other bikes in India including its own cousin, the 2012 KTM Duke 200. Other rivals include the Hero MotoCorp Karizma, TVS Apache RTR180 and to an extent, Honda’s CBR250R. However, we shall reserve our judgment till the official prices are out
