2014 BMW X4
Automobile manufacturers are
becoming masters and have perfected in ‘filling the gaps’. Where you and
I don’t see any room, you can be rest assured the manufacturer does and
sure enough is planning a vehicle. 2014 will see the entry of another
SUV aimed at those who wouldn’t ever take it off road. The BMW
X4 which will slot between the X5 and the X3 will be shown at the
Detroit Motor Show in 2013 and that would be a near-production concept.
Based on the X3 with which it shares its platform and underpinnings, the
designers though have done enough to differentiate the X4 from the X3.
Like the X6 and the X5, the X4 and the X3 too will be placed
differentially in the market. The manufacturer has been considering a
sportier version of the X3 for some time now and we expect it to come
into India as well in 2014.
Design and Interiors
The styling is heavily inspired from theX3 and you can see that the designers have looked at the X6 for inspiration too. The X4 will have a sloping coupe like roofline, 4 doors, and an angled tailgate. The one piece tailgate will make the X4 differentiate from the X3 and the SUV will have a sporty look. The front grille too will be different.Engine and Performance
The engine on the X4 will be the same as on the X3 but would come with a few tweaks. The 2-litre, 4 cylinder diesel which will make the most sense for India delivers 180PS and there is the bigger 3-liter diesel delivering 235PS. A twin turbo version of the 6 cylinder, 3-litre diesel would produce 300PS.The base petrol engine is the 2-liter, 4 cylinder delivering 165PS. For the international market there will be also the 3-litre, 6 cylinder M version mated to an eight speed automatic. This is the same engine which will power the next M3. A diesel version of the M is also planned.
