2012 Ferrari California
The accessible Ferrari.
That’s what they call the California. The California is a different
kind of Ferrari, a Ferrari for first time Ferrari owners. A bit too
radical for many since it is the first Ferrari road car to have a
front-mounted V8 engine and also a dual-clutch gearbox. The California
though isn’t the first Ferrari to have a removable hard-top and this is
not the first time that Ferrari has used the California name. The name
California first appeared on the 250GT in 1957. Launched in 2009,
Ferrari gave the California a revised version that offers more power,
less weight and an optional Handling Speciale pack. The California’s aim
is to usher in a number of first time customers for Ferrari which is
why the company took a different direction. According to Ferrari the
approach has worked as 70 percent of the Californias sold to date have
gone to buyers new to the Ferrari brand. The manufacturer gave the
California a mid-life cycle refresh at the Geneva Motor Show by making
it lighter and more powerful. Apart from being the cheapest Ferrari in
the line up, the California is softer and more approachable. The
California is priced in India at Rs2,20,00,000.
